The Arc de Triomphe: contemplating history and Paris

A majestic, nearly two-hundred-year-old neighbor to our hotel, it overlooks the "most beautiful avenue in the world" like a sage watching time go by. Commissioned by Napoleon I in 1806 to celebrate the victory at Austerlitz, the Arc de Triomphe is an architectural masterpiece completed in 1836. Situated at the heart of the Place Charles-de-Gaulle, this iconic monument, standing over 50 meters tall, pays tribute to the soldiers of the Empire. Its sculptures and engravings, such as the Departure of the Volunteers of 1792, recount significant episodes in French history.

From its summit, accessible by stairs or elevator, a breathtaking view awaits you: the twelve radiating avenues, the Eiffel Tower, and all of Paris lie at your feet. Every evening, the Flame of Remembrance is rekindled in honor of the soldiers of the First World War. A quiet, solemn moment that bears witness to France's sometimes painful history.
